The 1st
Annual “Heroes Behind the Badges” blood
drive ended with great success. The blood
drive held on September 26 was a friendly
competition between Windom Law Enforcement /
EMS and Windom Fire Department. The
departments put up a good fight.
In the end it
was the Windom Fire Department winning with
39 donation votes vs. Windom Law Enforcement
/ EMS with 31 donation votes. During the
blood drive donors could designate their
donation to the department of their choice.
All the blood
collected helped local area patients.
“This was a
great event,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive
Director, Community Blood Bank. “Just coming
off the summer months the blood supply
continues to be challenged due to decrease
in donations and a consistent need for blood
within the community. This was a well
attended blood drive and will help save
local patients lives.”
Community
Blood Bank is the sole provider of blood and
blood products to Windom Area Hospital and
28 other local hospitals.
On behalf of
Windom Area Hospital, Community Blood Bank
would like to thank the 70 volunteer blood
donors making the difference in the local
summer blood supply. A person must be at
least 17 years old, weigh 110 pounds or more
and be in good general health the day of
donation
