"Heroes Behind the Badges" Boosts Blood Supply

It was a close competition for the 14th Annual “Heroes Behind the Badges” blood drive event. In the end it was the Sioux Falls Police Department winning over the Sioux Falls Fire Rescue. The final tally was Sioux Falls Police Department with 394 donors donating in the name of their department, to Sioux Falls Fire Rescue with 388 donors. The event was held from December 26 through January 7th with 782 donors participating.

 

“This event continues to be a fun way for community members to donate and show support for our Sioux Falls heroes,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director Community Blood Bank. “Donors participating in the Heroes Behind the Badges provide blood to hospital patients throughout the holiday season. Community Blood Bank is grateful for Sioux Falls Police and Fire Rescue, all the blood donors and organizations participating. They have made a difference in the community blood supply and saved lives.”

 

Over the fourteen year history of the event, Sioux Falls Police and Sioux Falls Fire Rescue have been responsible for over 6,400 units of donated blood during the holidays.
