Departments Out for Blood at 3rd Annual Heroes Behind the Badges

 

Sheldon, IA- Sheldon Police Department / SCAT and Sheldon Fire Department / EMA compete to see which department can recruit the most blood donors to help the blood supply for Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in the 3rd Annual “Heroes Behind the Badges”.

 

The “friendly competition” between the departments will be held on Tuesday, February 2 and Wednesday, February 3.  Tuesday the bloodmobile will be at Village Northwest Unlimited from 7:30am to 10:20am and at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center from 12:00pm to 3:30pm.  Wednesday the bloodmobile will be at the Community Services Building from 9:00am to 5:00pm.  The public is encouraged to donate blood in honor of the department of their choice.  The department with the most donations will receive the traveling trophy and bragging rights for the year.     

 

“This blood drive will help bring the blood supply up to safe levels after the cancellation of multiple blood drives during the last winter storms,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank.  “Donating blood is a very easy way to impact a patient’s life.”

 

Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form, weigh 110 lbs or more and be in good general health.  It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating blood.  Please bring an ID with you.  Community Blood Bank is the sole blood provider to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center.  For more information log onto www.cbblifeblood.org or call 324-2813.
