3rd Annual "Community Heroes Challenge" Blood Drive Scheduled

Tracy, MN-Tracy Ambulance Service and Tracy Fire Department will be competing to see who can recruit the most blood donors for the community’s blood supply in the second annual “Community Heroes Challenge” blood drive. Last year it was the EMS bringing home the trophy.

The “friendly competition” between the departments will be held at Sanford Tracy Medical Center on Monday, June 29 from 11:00am to 2:00pm and 3:00pm to 6:30pm. Community Blood Bank’s bloodmobile will be there taking the donations. All the blood donations collected will help make a difference in the local blood supply and help save local lives. The public is encouraged to come in to donate and designate their donation to the department of their choice. The department credited with the most blood donations will receive a trophy and bragging rights for the year.

During the summer months the local blood supply is challenged, donations decrease due to people taking vacation or involved in summer activities. “The need for blood during the summer is consistent”, states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “We truly need people to donate blood at this blood drive to help keep the blood supply at adequate levels to be used for trauma, surgery, burn and cancer patients. Donate blood to support the local blood supply and your Community Heroes on June 29.”

Donors must be 17 years of age or older, weigh 110 lbs. or more and be in good general health the day of the blood drive. It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating. Community Blood Bank is the sole provider of blood to Sanford Tracy Medical Center. For more information please or to make an appointment please call 629-3200. Walk-ins are welcome. All who donate will receive a free hot dog lunch and All American Blood Donor t-shirt.
