Slayton, MN-Murray County Law Enforcement, EMS and Murray County Fire Department will be competing to see who can recruit the most blood donors for the community’s blood supply in the third annual “Heroes Behind the Badges” community blood drive.
The “friendly competition” between the departments will be held at Murray County Medical Center on Wednesday, July 1st from 11:00am to 2:00pm and 3:00pm to 7:00pm. Community Blood Bank’s bloodmobile will be there taking the donations. All the blood donations collected will help make a difference in the local blood supply and help save local lives. The public is encouraged to come in to donate and designate their donation to the department of their choice. All who donate will receive hotdog, chips and pop and an All American Blood Donor t-shirt. The department credited with the most blood donations will receive a trophy and bragging rights for a year.
During the summer months the local blood supply is challenged, donations decrease due to people taking vacation or involved in summer activities. “The need for blood during the summer is consistent”, states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “We truly need people to donate blood at this blood drive to help keep the blood supply at adequate levels to be used for trauma, surgery, burn and cancer patients.”
This blood drive will help ensure that blood will be there for the July 4th holiday weekend. Donors must be 17 years of age or older, weigh 110 lbs. or more and be in good general health the day of the blood drive. Community Blood Bank is the sole provider of blood to Murray County Medical Center. For more information or to make an appointment please call 836-1286. Walk-ins are welcome.
