Watertown, SD - Watertown Fire and Watertown Police Departments compete to see which department can recruit the most blood donors to help the blood supply for Prairie Lakes Healthcare System in the 8th Annual “Heroes Behind the Badges”.
The “friendly competition” between the two departments will be held Monday, December 21 from 11:00am to 7:00pm and Tuesday, December 22 from 7:00am to 4:00pm at the Watertown Mall’s East Entrance. The public is encouraged to come donate blood in honor of the department of their choice. The first 300 people to donate blood will receive a $5 Beef Bucks, compliments of Coteau Hills Cattlemen, Watertown HyVee, and County Fair Food Store. The department with the most donations will receive the traveling trophy and bragging rights for the year.
“This time of year is extremely difficult to maintain an adequate blood supply,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “This blood drive event provides the public a chance to say “thank you” to police and fire personnel and helps hundreds of patients in the hospital during the holidays.”
Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form found at www.cbblifeblood.org), weigh 110 lbs or more and be in good general health. It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating blood. Please bring an ID with you. For more information call 1-877-877-3070.
